Speculation about the exact launch date for the Fiat 500 in the US has varied widely, but it seems the planned time is officially December of this year. However the Abarth, being an upgraded version, isn’t planned to launch until a year later, in the fourth quarter of 2011. This is unfortunately an unofficial date and other sources have speculated that the Abarth will either come sooner or later than that, possibly not until late 2012.
Edit: More hints from Autoblog confirm this:
According to the North American PR people at Chrysler, we’ll be getting an American version of the 500 Abarth at the end of 2012 as a 2013 model. And it can’t come soon enough.
On one hand Chrysler will want to gauge the success of the base model before launching a performance version, but the company should also know that we Americans generally want more horsepower and will not be satisfied with the meager 68 to 74 HP offerings from Europe, or even the speculated 100 HP for the states.
